Cocone Europe OÜ is the European studio of Cocone Group, a Japan-based company with more than 17 years of experience creating beloved avatar and digital world services.

 

We’re looking for an experienced Game Designer to join our new unannounced strategic mobile game project from the ground up. You will design core gameplay systems that combine defensive strategy with player agency, spatial design mechanics, and competitive asynchronous multiplayer. This role requires both creative system design and strong mobile game balancing expertise.

Qualifications

Core System & Gameplay Design

  • Design strategic gameplay systems:
    • Spatial design mechanics involving placement, positioning, and layout optimization
    • Defensive strategy systems with AI-driven automation elements
    • Direct player control integrated with automated gameplay
    • Resource management and long-term progression loops
  • Create balanced PvE and PvP content:
    • Progressive difficulty curves and stage design
    • Player vs. environment challenges
    • Asynchronous competitive multiplayer mechanics
    • Attack/defense balance and meta design
  • Design collection and progression systems:
    • Unit unlock and upgrade mechanics
    • Economy design (soft/premium currency, resources)
    • Power scaling and long-term depth
    • Monetization integration

Documentation & Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Produce comprehensive design documentation:
    • System design specs (core loops, mechanics, progression)
    • Balance sheets (stats, upgrade curves, economy models)
    • UX/UI flows and wireframes
    • Feature specs with acceptance criteria
  • Work closely with Unity developers to:
    • Ensure features are implementable and optimized for mobile
    • Communicate design intent clearly
    • Iterate quickly based on technical constraints
    • Debug and balance through playtesting

Mobile-First UX Design

  • Design for landscape mobile gameplay:
    • Touch-friendly interface (drag, tap, swipe controls)
    • Clear visual hierarchy and feedback
    • Session length optimization (3-10 minutes)
    • Performance considerations (loading times, battery usage)
  • Create accessible onboarding (first 30-60 minutes):
    • Progressive tutorial design
    • Complexity introduction pacing
    • Player motivation and retention hook

Requirements

  • 5+ years in mobile F2P game design, with focus on strategy, tower defense, or base-building games
  • Unity knowledge is a must — strong understanding of Unity pipelines, prefabs, and mobile optimization (no coding required, but pipeline awareness expected)
  • Proven experience designing strategic gameplay systems (AI behavior, positioning mechanics, spatial design)
  • Strong understanding of competitive mobile gameswith asynchronous multiplayer
  • Solid economy design skills: resource balance, progression curves, monetization integration
  • Excellent documentation skills in English (specs, flows, balance sheets)
  • Data-driven mindset: able to use KPIs and player feedback to inform design decisions
  • Strong ownership and follow-through (design → implement → playtest → iterate)

Nice to Have

  • Shipped titles in Strategy, Tower Defense, Base Building, or Dungeon Management genres
  • LiveOps experience: planning events, content calendars, seasonal updates
  • Experience with collection-based progression systems
  • Background in PvP meta balancing and competitive design
  • Understanding of spatial puzzle design and optimization strategies
  • Familiarity with analytics tools (Firebase, Adjust, Amplitude, Unity Analytics)
  • Experience working with remote/distributed teams
