The client is looking for a senior leader in the field of design technology who has successfully built and implemented AI-first approaches to design and development in a real production environment. This is not a traditional Head of Design role, nor is it a position for someone who limits themselves to experimenting with tools or improving individual designers’ productivity. The challenge is much more ambitious: to transform the way product design and development collaborate so that teams can move much faster from idea to prototype, validation, a development-ready design, and, when necessary, to production implementation. We need a specialist who has moved beyond experimentation and created end-to-end systems, workflows, and operational models. The mission is to help build an AI-native design organization where AI is integrated into the way products are created and released, rather than simply being an additional productivity tool.
Success in this role means changing how teams actually build products: designers should be able to research and validate ideas faster, engineers should receive artifacts that are more ready for implementation, design systems should integrate more reliably with production code, and manual handoffs and routine work should be significantly reduced. - Proven experience in building and implementing AI-first design and development workflows in a real-world production environment.
- A deep understanding of modern product design processes and how design relates to engineering.
- Hands-on experience integrating AI tools into processes ranging from ideation to prototyping, design, and software development.
- A strong understanding of design systems, component libraries, and the relationship between design artifacts and production code.
- Sufficient technical depth to work directly with front-end engineers and understand the implementation of design systems in real-world applications.
- Experience transforming experimental AI workflows into reproducible systems that other designers and engineers can use.
- Strong product and systems thinking: optimizing the entire workflow, not just individual tools.
- Ability to distinguish truly useful AI capabilities from demos, prototypes, and hype.
- Experience driving significant changes in workflows or organizational structures across design and engineering teams.
- Strong written and spoken English skills.

- Define and implement an AI-first design and development workflow across product teams.
- Significantly shorten the path from idea to prototype, validation, development-ready design, and, if necessary, production code.
- Create workflows that integrate design tools, AI systems, design systems, component libraries, and actual application code.
- Implement practical approaches for AI-assisted ideation, prototyping, UX research, UI generation, design-to-code, iteration, and implementation.
- Design systems and processes that enable designers and engineers to collaborate effectively in an AI-native environment.
- Evaluate and integrate new AI design and development tools, focusing on their value in production rather than on hype.
- Work closely with design, product, and engineering leaders to identify bottlenecks and rework workflows.
- Help establish or evolve design systems that can be reliably translated into real product components.
- Create standards and guardrails that allow teams to move faster without sacrificing quality, consistency, or maintainability.
- Coach designers and engineers on AI-native workflows and facilitate their adoption within teams.
- Measure the impact of these workflows on design and development speed, iteration cycles, and product delivery.

- Experience in roles such as Design Engineer, Design Technologist, Product Engineer, or similar hybrid design/engineering roles.
- Experience building internal AI tools, agents, plugins, or automations for designers and developers.
- Experience working with modern AI tools for coding and prototyping.
- Experience building token-based or code-connected design systems.
- Experience scaling design systems across multiple products or engineering teams.
- Experience leading or building AI-native product, design, or engineering teams.
